Milton, Ontario's Best Dog Parks, Pet Shops & Daycares
Between the conservation parks post and the family neighbourhood guide, I've covered a lot of what makes Milton a great place to put down roots. This time I want to cover the members of the family who don't get asked their opinion on a listing but absolutely have one: the dogs. If you're a dog owner (or hoping to be one soon), here's your guide to Milton's leash-free parks, boutique pet stores, daycares, and the best ways to spend a day out with your pup.
Off-Leash Dog Parks
Milton has two dedicated, fully fenced off-leash dog parks, both run by the volunteer group Leash Free Milton.
Cedar Hedge Park West (230 Cedar Hedge Rd) is a roughly 2.3-acre fenced area with a separate children's play zone, benches for owners, and plenty of trees and open running space. It has a friendly, well-organized community feel, and it's a good pick if your dog does best around a regular crowd of familiar faces.
Sunny Mount Park (255 Ruhl Dr) is Milton's largest fenced leash-free park, with multiple enclosures including a separate section for small dogs, grass and dirt surfaces, washrooms, and parking right on site.
Both parks require dogs to be leashed when entering and exiting the fenced area, and membership through Leash Free Milton (around $20 per year for up to three dogs) is required to use them. It's a small cost for daily off-leash access, and it directly supports the volunteers who maintain the space.
Boutique Pet Stores
Beyond the big-box chains, Milton has a handful of independent shops worth knowing about, especially if you like your dog's food and gear picked with a little more care.
Mutt Life (15-585 Ontario St S) is Milton's independent, locally owned pet shop, run by Stacey and Jay. It stocks a curated selection of food, treats, toys, and grooming products for dogs and cats, with an emphasis on wholesome and Canadian-made options, and it was the first in town to offer a self-serve DIY dog wash. Regulars say the staff know them and their dog by name.
ADR Pet Stores (16 Martin St, downtown Milton) specializes in raw pet food and natural treats, with over 30 protein combinations sourced from federally inspected Canadian facilities, plus toppers, bowls, and other accessories. Staff can help walk you through transitioning a dog from kibble to a raw diet if that's something you're considering.
PAWS Pet Grooming combines a full grooming service with a small retail shop carrying collars, coats, and other accessories, so you can get your dog groomed and outfitted in one stop.
Doggy Daycares and Boarding
Whether you need daily daycare, occasional boarding, or a quick midday walk while you're at work, Milton has options across a range of budgets:
Redwood Pet Resort offers daycare, boarding, grooming, and walks in a climate-controlled facility with individual suites (boarding runs roughly $33 to $50 a night).
Canine Crew Co. offers full-day daycare, quick play sessions, and dog walking, with full-day care around $37.
The Dog's Inn covers daycare and boarding, including walks, playtime, feeding, and medication administration for dogs who need it.
Sunset Dog Retreat runs a cage-free daycare with outdoor facilities, with daycare around $24 and boarding from $45 to $55 a night.
Abbey Lane Kennels boards both dogs and cats, with walks, playtime, and grooming included, starting around $29 a night.
Rates and availability change, so it's worth calling ahead or checking current pricing before booking, especially around holidays.
Getting Outside Together
If you read my post on Halton's conservation parks, you already know Milton sits right at the doorstep of some of the best hiking in the region, and most of those trails welcome leashed dogs. Rattlesnake Point, Hilton Falls, and Mount Nemo all make for a great half-day hike with a dog who needs to burn off some energy. Closer to home, Milton's network of neighbourhood parks and trails (many of the same ones with splash pads for the kids) double as easy, everyday walking routes.
